What immediately comes to mind when you think about the hustle? Does it invoke images of fictional hustlers, such as SuperFly, The Mack, Nino Brown, O-Dog, Detective Alonzo Harris, Ghost, Tasha, Tariq, Tommy, Lucious, Ronnie, Stony, Cookie, or Cleo? These hustlers are often portrayed as street-savvy pimps, escorts, drug dealers, extortionists, robbers, or con artists. They are slick, sly, and shady. Their business dealings consist of drug trafficking, prostitution, gambling, bribery, extortion, and a whole lot of blood. Well, I think it’s safe to say that’s not the vibe I’m going for here! Ya’ think?

Instead, think more of real hustlers such as Madam C.J. Walker, Sheila Johnson, William F. Pickard, Mellody Hobson, Tyler Perry, Daymond John, Cathy Hughes, John Hope Bryant, Michael Jordan, Byron Allen, Venus and Serena Williams, Russell and Ciara Wilson, Tamron Hall, Jennifer Hudson (hey girl—are we cousins?), Issa Rae, Tracee, Barrack, Michelle, Denzel, Lebron, Oprah, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Zendaya, Viola, Kendrick, Keke, and Kerrie, among others. They are strategic, street-savvy, and smart. These hustlers are authors, entrepreneurs, executives, investors, lawyers, filmmakers, producers, fixers, directors, detectives, athletes, actors, singers, rappers, dancers, doctors, a president, a first lady, and philanthropists.

These men and women are changing the game, setting new standards, raising the bar, and making their mark. They’re out here breaking down barriers, pushing past limits, and reaching new heights with their unstoppable drive and creativity. Their journeys are hecka inspiring, showing us that with passion, hustle, and heart, you can make your entrepreneurial dreams a reality. Yeah, that’s the vibe I’m going for! You catching it?

Just so we’re vibin’ and speakin’ the same language—when I say ‘hustler’ in these pages, this is the kind of grind and mindset I’m talkin’ about:
